Victoria, B.C. – The New Car Dealers Association of BC is pleased to congratulate Porsche Centre Victoria and Campus Nissan on receiving the Clean Energy Vehicle for BC (CEVforBC™) Green Star Awards for selling more plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) than any other dealerships on Vancouver Island in 2015.

“Congratulations to Campus Nissan and Porsche Centre Victoria on your achievements in the sales of electric vehicles” said Hon. Bill Bennett, Minister for Energy and Mines, who presented the award. “B.C.’s new car dealers play a vital role in encouraging more and more British Columbians to get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle. With 98% of the electricity generated in B.C. coming from clean or renewable resources, stimulating the purchase of electric vehicles is one of the most effective ways to reduce greenhouse gases.”

The Green Star Awards are a series of CEVforBC™ Program Dealer Awards that specifically recognize the highest number of Clean Energy Vehicle sales in 2015, across all brands, by provincial region (Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Interior and Northern BC).

In 2015, Porsche Centre Vancouver sold 8 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), more than any other automobile dealer on Vancouver Island. And Campus Nissan sold 56 battery electric vehicles, more than any other automobile dealer on Vancouver Island.

“Today we celebrate the outstanding efforts of two more NCDA members who are being honoured with Green Star Awards for selling the highest number of electric vehicles in B.C.,” said Blair Qualey, President and CEO of the New Car Dealers Association of BC. “Thanks to dealers like Porsche Centre Vancouver and Campus Nissan, B.C. is becoming a leader in offering clean energy vehicle transportation options for all British Columbians.”

Electric vehicle (EV) sales have been steadily increasing, jumping by 32 per cent from 2014 to 2015 according to Canadian auto research firm FleetCarma. One of the reasons for the increase is due to the incentive programs available to consumers including the CEVforBC™ program, which is funded by the Province of B.C. and administered by the New Car Dealers Association. CEVforBC™ offers up to $5,000 to B.C. residents who purchase or lease an eligible new battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. For the list of eligible vehicles, please visit www.cevforbc.ca.

Many consumers pair this incentive with the BC SCRAP-IT program, which allows consumers purchasing a qualifying electric vehicle to scrap their older model to receive a $3,250 rebate – $3,000 from BC SCRAP-IT and a $250 point-of-sale discount from a participating dealership.

“We’re honoured to receive the CEVforBC™ Green Star Award for the highest number of plug-in hybrid vehicles sold on Vancouver Island in 2015,” said Paul Rossmo, General Manager, Porsche Centre Victoria. “Thanks to the support from the provincial government, our customers are choosing clean energy vehicle options, helping put BC at the forefront of investments in the environment.”

“We’re delighted to receive the CEVforBC™ Green Star Award for the highest number of battery electric vehicles sold on Vancouver Island in 2015,” said Brad Osterman, General Manager, Campus Nissan. “We’re already well on our way to meet or exceed BEV sales for 2016. We consistently receive feedback from our customers that the clean energy vehicle incentives are a major deciding factor when considering purchasing a clean energy vehicle. The CEVforBC™ program is making a difference in encouraging our customers in Victoria and beyond to consider clean energy vehicle options.”

Since the CEVforBC™ program began in 2011, the government has committed more than $31 million for vehicle incentives and charging infrastructure to make clean energy vehicles more affordable and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In the recently released Climate Leadership Plan, the Clean Energy Vehicle program will be expanded to support new vehicle incentives and charging infrastructure, as well as education and economic development initiatives – new investments and programs are currently being designed to continue growth in this area.

Dealerships like Porsche Centre Victoria and Campus Nissan are committed to ensuring potential car owners have all the adequate information when it comes to selecting an EV. For more information please visit: www.newcardealers.ca and www.gov.bc.ca/cleanenergyvehicleprogram
