The Canadian Automotive Industry is facing tumultuous times. Between inflation, tariff wars, and rising global uncertainty, it’s more important than ever that we continue to invest in the future of our sector. And while various aspects like infrastructure, technology, and pricing are essential focus points, BC’s New Car Dealers believe the most vital investment we can make for the future is people.

The CarCareerBC Education Grant, offered through the New Car Dealers Foundation of BC, helps students pursue education and training that leads to rewarding careers in the auto sector. That’s why I want to remind students, educators, and our industry partners that the deadline to apply for the CarCareerBC Education Grant is quickly approaching on July 31, 2025.

This program assists students in achieving their dream of a career in the industry, whether it’s becoming an automotive service technician, working in sales or marketing, or exploring new opportunities in electric vehicle infrastructure. And it does so by lowering a rather significant hurdle for young folks: the cost.

In 2024, the Foundation awarded more than $50,000 in grants to students across the province, ranging in value from $500 to $2,500, to help cover everything from tuition and certification fees to essential tools and equipment. Support like this can make all the difference for a student looking to complete their training and enter the workforce.

CarCareerBC supports a wide range of educational paths, from service and repair programs to business administration, marketing, and other studies that lead to jobs in BC’s new car dealerships. Last year, we expanded our outreach to institutions like Vancouver Community College, BCIT, and Okanagan College, while continuing to champion alignment with Red Seal standards and increasing access to electric vehicle technician training — the latter of which is only becoming more relevant.

Beyond financial assistance, the program helps students build connections with future employers and industry mentors. Awards like the BCIT New Car Dealers Foundation of BC Award and the Georgian College Automotive Business School of Canada Grant provide targeted support for students pursuing careers in automotive business, service, and repair, helping them take the next step in their education and training. Many recipients go on to join dealership teams through co-op placements, apprenticeships, or full-time roles.

Of course, I have to mention our key partner in this effort, Snap-On Tools, the Foundation’s preferred tool grant provider. The continued support of such an iconic and respected industry name ensures that students have access to professional-grade tools that meet industry standards, helping us create real pathways for students to enter the workforce prepared and confident.

By supporting the next generation of skilled workers, we are not just helping individuals. We are helping to build a stronger, more sustainable future for the entire industry and the communities we serve. For anyone considering a career in the automotive world, I encourage you to visit newcardealersfoundation.ca and learn more. Applications are open until July 31, 2025, and the application process is simple, quick, and accessible.
