Thanks to the Government’s environmental leadership, the budget also includes $40 million in funding that was announced earlier this month, with the goal of continuing to ensure British Columbians are incentivized when purchasing a qualifying clean energy vehicle.
“The NCDA is pleased to see the government’s important work on creating an economy for success and leaving nearly $1 billion in the pockets of B.C. families,” says Blair Qualey, President and CEO of the NCDA. “The province’s continued support of effective initiatives like the Clean Energy Vehicle (CEVforBC™) program, is helping to address climate change while keeping BC economically competitive. The point of sale incentives leaves additional money in the pockets of British Columbians and creates an environment for consumers to be well-positioned to consider purchasing a clean energy vehicle.”
B.C.’s New Car Dealers are helping the province lead the way with the highest sales of clean energy vehicles per capita in the country.
The CEVforBC™ incentive program allows consumers to save up to $5,000 towards the purchase or lease of a new battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, and up to $6,000 for a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. For qualifying electric vehicles, the incentive can also be combined with the BC SCRAP-IT Program, which offers up to $6,000 off the sticker price if a purchaser scraps an older vehicle. The provincial government support will help to ensure that more and more British Columbians can participate in the program when making climate conscious decisions.
Supporting alternative and more fuel-efficient vehicle technologies, along with charging infrastructure was a key component in the Climate Leadership Plan which was unveiled by the province last year, on the heels of the Paris Climate Summit in 2015.
